‘I’ve had a notepad and pencil in my back pocket for as long as I can remember.’
Russell Shaw, an Atlanta based graphic designer, illustrator and art director, works mainly in print design, identity and branding. This interview showcases an intriguing ‘old world’ personality behind his beautiful works.
‘I like to draw inspiration from thought leaders in industries different from my own - writers and musicians and filmmakers who challenge me to think creatively from a perspective that has little to do with day-to-day design work. I think Hemingway, Salinger, Faulkner and Fitzgerald have influenced me creatively just as much as some of my favourite designers.’
His works feature stunningly intricate hand drawn details, soft colouring and strong typography. The studio in which he works, is located in a building which is over 100 years old, it is not surprising that he feels that in general, ‘works reflect the environment it was created in.’
