So you have your Joomla website. It is up and running and working perfectly fine but is it secure. Will it stand up against the basic hacks that are found on the internet? In this blog post series we look at the basic ideas behind website security, good practises and how to secure your Joomla website.
Some would say the best way to secure the website from a hacker is to simply take it down and have it running in a location that isn’t accessible to any, for example a USB drive off your laptop. Of course this is completely impractical and in almost every case you’d want your website publicly accessible to the world.
Another thing to note is that if a hacker wants access to your website and hosting server, they will eventually find a way to get in. If its not directly from your Joomla website, it may be from a hosting vulnerability or something else completely unknown or something as simple as phishing for your details, resetting all your passwords and wiping your digital life from existence, which has happened to many people before. Best best you can do is to take every precaution you can with your Joomla website and make sure you do everything right to keep your site as secure as possible and to stay one step ahead of the hackers.
Now if you do get hacked, please don’t take it personally. In most cases that hackers are simply using automated scripts to hack your website and they’re usually not targeting you or your business specifically but targeting the server for its resources to send out unsolicited spam emails.
