Joomla SEO Case Study: Potts Point Pizza

Over the years I have, well at least I think I have gained a lot of experience in building and optimising Joomla websites to rank well on the search engines.

In fact, my own business marketing was only successful due to the fact that I ranked well for the keywords that I was trying to target to gain work in the Joomla space.

Now I wanted to share what I've learnt over the years with everyone and document the entire process that I go through in terms of planning a website, putting it all together and then fine tuning it to reach number 1 on Google for the search term "Potts Point Pizza" and variations of the phrase.

I don't know if I'll make it to number one for the search term of this case study but the point is to demonstrate my process and what is required in order to get the website online, index and hopefully ranking really well in the search engines.

The website is PottsPointPizza.com (registered 16th May 2013) and will be up and running soon. Usually I can do this within a few hours but now I have to document each step to share it with the rest of the world.

I'll be writing blog posts, doing screen casts that will be posted on YouTube as well as introducing parts of it to the regular podcast.

To spice things up, I'll also be inviting experts along the way in different aspects of online marketing, to pick their brains and gain great insight into getting to number 1!

I chose the topic of pizza because I knew I could easily write content and take photos of pizza as I build the website. I also enjoy a lot of pizza around the area and it is a great excuse for me to get out and eat more pizza. :) So why not. Another food blog dedicated to pizza in my area.

The other benefit is that the Potts Point area in Sydney is one of the most heavily populated and visited areas on the Sydney CBD with over 5 million people passing through the area on a weekly basis. A nice review and guide to great pizza in the area might be even beneficial, who knows!

Now on to the process...

Step 1: The Domain Name (16th May 2013)

So I've started the process now and have registered the domain name. The overall goal really was to target pizza in my local area and maybe even the surrounding area around Potts Point. So the first this was to get a good domain name that matched the search criteria that I had set out for myself.

I've documented the process of choosing the domain name and why I chose the domain name in my blog post entitled, "Choosing a Good Keyword Rich Domain Name For Your Website".

Step 2: Planning of the Website (17th May 2013)

The next step of the process is to plan the website and the content that I'll be putting together for it. This process will take a little bit longer as I figure out exactly what is going to go on the site, how I will structure that content, and a plan to optimise and focus the content across the website.

Stay tuned for my next update.
